2011 Scholarship Recipients
The Minot Rotary Scholarship Foundation Fund, 2011 Rotary Scholarship Foundation winners were announced at the Annual Scholarship Banquet on Monday, May 2 at the Grand International.

This year there were 34 - $1,000 scholarships awarded to high school seniors from Minot and the surrounding area.

The Rotary Scholarship Foundation Fund was established by the Rotary Club of Minot 27 years ago. The goal of the fund is to provide scholarships to area youth through a permanent endowment fund held at the Minot Area Community Foundation. Scholarship applications are scored based upon participation in school activities, involvement in community service and charitable organizations, employment history and academic achievements. Ken Kitzman, president of the Minot Area Community Foundation is amazed at the number of scholarships that have been given back over the years through this fund. "As a member of the Rotary club, it is rewarding to see the area students recognized each year for their hard work and for the foundation to be able to give back each and every year," said Kitzman.

This year's recipients include: Colleen Finley, Sarah Rimatzki - Bishop Ryan, Heather Milbrath, Brooke Miller - Bottineau, Mya Erickson - Burke Central, Kelsey Walz - DesLacs Burlington, McKaila Matteson, McKenzie Matteson, Jonathan Price - Garrison, Nicole Stivers - Glenburn, Kelsey Fike, Becca Kourajian, Maggie Lorenz, Sheyenne Schneider - Harvey, Maria Hager - Kenmare, Summer Dieterie - McClusky, Marisa Asheim - MLS, Amanda Beck, Brooklyn Bender, Breanna Benson, Kaitlin Crowdus, Mason Eisenzimmer, Sara Fundingsland, Micah Holmen, Dakota Larson, Katelyn Larson, Derek Moen, Sierra Murphy, Austin Olson, Taylor Peterson - Minot, Heather Brockell - Our Redeemer's, Zachary Thompson - TGU-Granville, Haley Heiser, Jaci Norbury - Velva.

2011 Honorary Scholarships were designated to honor Rotarians in the categories of Community Service, Humanitarian Service and Memorials. Honorary Scholarships were awarded to the five highest scoring applicants from Minot and five from the surrounding area. The scholarships were: Jeff Balentine Community Service Scholarship, CJ Craven Community Service Scholarship, Steve Kukowski Community Service Scholarship, Chester Reiten Community Service Scholarship, John Sinn Community Service Scholarship. 2011 Humanitarian Scholarships include: Bruce Christianson Humanitarian Service Scholarship, Dr. David Olson Humanitarian Service Scholarship, Sunrise on Hunger Humanitarian Service Scholarship. 2011 Memorial Scholarships include: Ken Hegle Memorial Scholarship and Arnie Braaten Memorial Scholarship.

Since its inception, the scholarship fund has awarded 629 scholarships totaling $547,500. Students earning scholarships are chosen by members of the Minot Rotary Club who review and score every application. Criteria for these awards are based on local geographic area, participation in school activities, involvement in community and charitable organizations, employment history and academic achievements.

Through the Minot Rotary Scholarship Foundation from its humble beginnings back in the 1940's to present, local Rotarians have taken great pride in putting service above self and have truly made a difference for local youth and our future.
