The Rotary Club of Minot, North Dakota, was chartered in May, 1918 and has grown to
over 100 members. Our club has more than 120 members and friends of Rotary who are Paul
Harris Fellows.
Many of our activities are focused on youth. We sponsor in-bound and out-bound Rotary
Exchange students each year. Our club has raised, through various projects and
solicitations, more than $400,000 for our Scholarship Fund. With the earnings from the
fund, the club awards academic scholarships to students in the area. This year,
thirty-five $1,000 scholarships were awarded. We are hoping to increase the number and
amount of scholarships.
Another youth orientated endeavor is our Junior Rotarian program. During the school
year, we invite six high school seniors to attend our weekly meetings for one month at a
time. This way we have more than 40 students exposed to Rotary each year. In May, we
invite all the students who have been "Junior Rotarians" to attend a special
meeting where we have a motivational speaker. We also invite the scholarship winners and
their parents to this meeting and present the awards. This group is a good source for
Exchange Students.
We have been very supportive of RYLA and have had 3 or 4 participants for the last five
years. (Our district started a program five years ago.) We also sponsor students to attend
Boys/Girls State and a Model United Nations in Winnepeg, Canada.
Rotary World Community Service Projects participation have been varied and included:
water well development and books for people in Africa, vision care for people in India,
funding a schoolhouse in Peru, building a dental clinic in the Cook Islands, a community
center to Guatemala, and sending medical equipment to Honduras. Some of our members have
also gone to Honduras to provide medical care.
